Dragonslayer: Olicity FanFiction

Felicity took a cup of coffee out to the front porch of her cabin in the forest to watch Mia collect fireflies.  Mia would be five in about six months, and Felicity thought how lonely this time would be if she had not had her.  Her mind drifted to William.  He didn't know he had parents who loved him desperately, nor did he know he had a little sister.  What kind of brother would he have been? She felt certain he would be a protective older brother. She smiled when she thought that Mia would be a bossy little sister.  Her thoughts drifted toward  her husband, but she pulled them away; thinking of him was too hard. She called for Mia and told her,"time to get ready for bed."  "One more minute, Mommy, please?"  But Felicity encouraged her to come, and  Mia began to release the fireflies she had collected. "Why are you letting them go, Mia?"

"Well, Mommy," she began, they are my watchman,  they are my, what were you once, Mommy?"

"Overwatch, sweetheart."

"They are my Overwatchers.  They will help me protect the Dragaonslayer.  Mommy, can we add that to the the story tonight?

"I was thinking of telling a different story tonight."

"Oh, Mommy, I love the Dragonslayer story, please tell me that one tonight.  You can tell a different one tomorrow night."

Felicity agreed, how could she not agree with her?  Every time she looked at Mia, she saw Oliver in her eyes.  She had the same determined fearlessness about her, yet there was an underlying sadness too.  Felicity could never completely remove the sadness, but that made him all the more dear to her heart.  Felicity got Mia's bathwater ready when Mia came in and announced, "I can do it all by myself tonight, Mommy."

"Mommy and Daddy's girl is growing up I see," Felicity said, with a touch of  sadness.  Mia must  have known it too, for she said, "It's okay, Mommy, I will always need you."

Mia found Felicity sitting in the cushioned rocker by the side of Mia's bed.  She took the stuffed lion that Oliver had gotten for her, before they even found out if they were having a boy or a girl, and climbed into Felicity's lap. "Ready, Mommy."

"Once upon a time in a kingdom not to far away lived a young man who killed dragons. The kingdom had been overcome by dragons and one by one, the young man, known only as a Dragonslayer would defeat the dragon.  One day, Dragonslayer enlisted the help of Warrior.  Warrior worked with Dragonslayer to defeat the dragons as they came into the kingdom.

"Mommy, was the Warrior kind to Dragonslayer?"

"Oh, yes, he loved Dragonslayer like a brother. But the kingdom had more dragons than even the two bravest men could handle. One night the Dragonslayer received a wound, and he hid in a wagon cart and would have died, but a young maiden had been out trying to find her missing abacus."

"Mommy, why did the maiden have an abacus?

"Why do you think she had one?"

"Cuz she liked numbers!"

"Oh, yes, she loved numbers and, now where was I?"

"The maiden found Dragonslayer," said Mia laughing.

"Hmm, I think you got ahead of me a little.  It was more like the Dragonslayer found the maiden, well, he found the maiden's cart,  how, did he know it was her cart? I never could figure how how he knew that...," Felicity's thoughts trailed off.

"Mommy!  The story!"  Felicity continued on with story.  Every time she told it, Mia wanted to add something new, so they got to the part where everyone had turned against the Dragonslayer except for Warrior and the Maiden, and the Dragonslayer had to be taken to another kingdom far away to keep him safe, then Mia yawned and said, "Don't forget the Overwatchers, Mommy"  So Felicity continued, "One night a fair princess heard stories of the fearless Dragonslayer and the unthankful people in her realm, so she charged a group of fireflies, who could fly to the faraway kingdom and light the way for Dragonslayer to return home to his own kingdom, she called them Overwatchers, for they would watch over the Dragonslayer wherever he was and would light his way home.  Now, my little munchkin, it's time to say prayers."

Mia knelt by her bed her sleepy blond  head bowed and her tiny little fingers folded in prayer and said, "Dear God, Thank you that you watched over me today and I'm sorry I got angry with Mrs. Finch at the market today, but she is bossy to Mommy. And bless Nana, and," she stopped, was silent for a moment, and turned to Felicity with questioning eyes imploring  said, "Mommy, is Dragonslayer really Daddy?"  That took Felicity by surprise, how could she know? She couldn't grow up too quickly, but she promised never to lie, "Yes, Mia, Dragonslayer is your Daddy."  Then Mia went back to her prayer, "and help light the way for Daddy to come home." She had known, all along Mia put little pieces  of the story together, adding little bits here and there, but down deep, she had known.  Felicity held back tears. She kissed Mia good night, turned out the light, and sat in the chair as she usually did watching over her until she knew Mia was sound asleep.

Felicity went into the living room. She went to the big bay window, she  sat down on  the cushioned bench and looked out into the forest, where the full moon shed it's luminous light and the stars shone so brightly.  The moon  had never looked so large, full, and close as it had tonight.  A lone  tear fell from her eye  as  she  remembered the last time she and Oliver had been in this room.  Mia had been born and their  hearts had overflowed with joy.  Oliver knew how much Felicity loved to watch old movies  on Netflix, so  he had planned  a  movie night.  They had never had  one  before.  He chose an American Tail, for it would make Felicity smile and laugh and he wanted that for his  memory.  When Tanya and Fievel sang Somewhere  out There,  Oliver held Felicity close and  she leaned  against him, and  whispered, "Let's make that our song, Oliver.  Is that silly?"  He  held her tighter than he had ever held her before, and whispered back,  the moon is ours.  Felicity, I love you."

"Oliver," Felicity spoke  to the moon, "Our daughter is  growing up quicker than I like.  She  asked me  tonight  if the  Dragonslayer  was her Daddy.  I couldn't lie when  she  asked me directly,  so I  told her yes, but she  didn't  cry,  she prayed that the fireflies  she  had released back into the night sky, would light your way home.  When she's five, I'll  contact Nyssa, and you  know how hard that will be.  Why  does she  always call  herself  your wife? I'm sure you're smiling as  I say that.  You are  going  to find this difficult to  believe, but tonight,  I  would  give anything to be in Ivy Town again, just the four of  us.  I'm trying to get the  computer program running.   You and Cisco planned the room perfectly for Mia has no clue it's there, and I only go in there late at night.  We'll get through this Oliver, somehow, someway.  One day we will  finish slaying all  the dragons and go home, you, William, Mia and I will go home and be free to live on our terms, and the world will know what you have done."  A cloud crossed over the moon, but quickly passed, and she didn't know why, but she thought Oliver at that moment had thought of her watching that same  moon.  "One day we will be free.  I love you Oliver."  She  let the tears fall softly, she  got up and went into the  secret  room. She had work to do.
