Reversal: Arrow 604 Review

Reversal gave us lots of action and lots of Olicity.  This episode ranks with one of the best of all time, and I commend the writers.  The dialogue,as fast paced as the action, did not disappoint.  Emily Bett Rickards said that this episode was one of her favorites and it is easy to see way.  So much that's good happens in this episode.

Remember she only wanted water on her first date, because wine wouldn't go with the Valium she had taken?  Now she is at ease with Oliver and he is at ease with her.  A women in the restaurant recognizes both the mayor and Felicity and comments about their being back together, and like the viewer she is happy for them.  Then Felicity uses the word, "boyfriend."  It was so cute. I also like the line when Oliver said he wasn't ready, and he really wasn't. This scene was a favorite of mine, because it shows such a contrast with the first date.  They aren't the same people anymore.

Felicity goes back the apartment and there she meets Alena. Alena tells her that Cayden James had hurt her.  Cayden wasn't who she thought he was, and Oliver was right about him.  As Alena and Felicity are about to leave, Oliver shows up, and Felicity fills him in on what Cayden has done.  He wants her to tell the team.  He's not opposed to her going, but he wants her to have backup.  He knows what it's like to have that.  Oliver follows her and I admit, I found it funny when she points the gun at Oliver not know he had followed her.  She's upset with him,  not because he had really hindered her, she was trying to protect him.  She knows he's being watch by the FBI and she doesn't want anyone to find anything out. When they argue now it's not about trust, it's about each one wanting to protect the other one.  Their love has matured. They have grown.

Alena and Felicity go back to Helix so that Felicity can access the information she needs to help the team, but Cayden James is there, but thanks to Curtis and his tech, the team finds out and show up, but Alena  his hurt in the crossfire.  Felicity feels guilt, just as Oliver often felt guilty in the past.  Diggle's talk with Felicity was good too.  She feels guilt confessing it was all her fault.  Felicity blows up at him, but like a big brother, he tells her to go home and get a shower.  He knows she needs to clear her head.

Then Oliver shows up and Felicity and Oliver have a wonderful talk.  She asks him how he was able to do everything, be a mayor, a boyfriend, the arrow, all alone.  Oliver tells her, " I wasn't alone. I had you." (BTW that was like the 4th time she said the word, boyfriend, so cute).  He wants to protect her and she him.  That's what love is all about.  Oliver doesn't lecture her and talk down to her, but he discusses his feelings with her.  I loved that scene. Oliver tells her, "I want a chance to be there for you, just like you've been there for me."  Felicity brushes a tear away.  I love character grown, and both Oliver and Felicity have grown.

Oliver becomes Overwatch for Felicity. He tells her the way she has set it up even William could do it.  He gets his right and left mixed up, saying it's a learning curve.  It would be something Felicity would say.  Truly it was reversal!  Oliver helps Felicity, and when the bomb is stopped and all is okay, Felicity said, We're not dead.  Overwatch backed her up. Another "Reversal" was Oliver encouraging Felicity by saying "You can do it.  I believe in you."  All the things that Felicity said and did for Oliver as the Arrow, he does and says for her now.  Loved it.

Cayden James: Cayden, well played by Michael Emerson, is diabolical and downright scary.  He's different than Adrian  Chase in that he was more in control of his emotions, but nonetheless scary. Now this writer is worried about Felicity, because her fingerprints are all over the firewall. This is something James wants. I  am sure now that Cayden  James is the one who released the photo of Oliver as the Arrow, and he wants to bring Felicity and the team down. The stage is set for Felicity to end up in jail, and Oliver will become the Green Arrow again to help get her out.   He is also the one who saved Laurel.  She works for him, and she doesn't like Felicity either.

I loved the end scene, but I for one cannot wait until they are married.  At least they are headed in that direction.

Final thoughts:   Were you surprised that the name of the company will be Helix Tech?  Surely this will eventually be changed, right?  It may grow on me.  I wasn't too keen as it being the same as the one Legend's episode where the Palmer Tech building was Smoak Tech, because Felicity wasn't with Oliver and that didn't seem right to me.  This may be silly,  but one thing I love about Arrow are all the small things that make the show connected through the seasons. On the back of the sofa, was the same green afghan that Felicity had wrapped around her when Oliver went to see her when  she was on the balcony and he came to ask her why she didn't tell him that she was seeing Billy.  Kudos to the writers Sarah Tarkoff and Emilio Ortega Aldrich.  They brought together past moments that we loved about Olicity and made everything fresh in Reversal.  It came across beautifully.  Loved this episode.

Comments

  1. Black Siren already knows Oliver is the Arrow. (He was in his suit on Lian Yu in 5x23 when he was 'captured' in the monastery.) She was just snarking at Diggle.

    1. Good point, and totally forgot about Dig being in Oliver's suit. Thank you for taking the time to point that out. I still don't think she played it all that well. I think if she had really wanted to be snarky, she would have dug a little bit deeper and mentioned Oliver, but that's just me. I have trouble with BS. I don't see her as a relevant character, though they try to make her one. What do you think?
