The Black Siren
When we left Arrow on Thursday, Black Siren said she had thought she had been kidnapped and that her name was Laurel Lance. There has been much speculation about her. One of my friends told me something interesting. She has the Olicity-Arrow page on Facebook, and if you haven't been there, you should visit it, because it is all things Olicity in one place. Anyway she asked me what if she had been tortured on Earth 2? That might explain some of her behavior. We know that when she was 13 her father died, and then the love her life, Oliver on Earth 2 died. It left her alone and bitter, so she turned to crime and killing. If she had been in prison on her earth or had been tortured it might parallel Oliver's journey a bit.
Oliver, however, even when he was on the Island, didn't want to kill just to be killing. Then with Diggle and Felicity to guide him, he did learn there could be a different way to solve problems. Even though Black Siren hesitated, she still chose to kill. That is the difference between Oliver and Black Siren. Even when she talks to Quentin, she doesn't seem genuine. She did disobey James, and let Lance get away, but when she had a chance to stay with Lance, she didn't. Lance was hurt, and she fled to save her own self. Can she learn to trust and to care, I think she probably could, but the question for me is will she chose that path? Of course Black Siren can be redeemed, but will she choose to be? For me that is the big question. My guess she may but it will be over time. Will that bring her back in season 7? Probably, but I don't think she'll stay.
I am still puzzling why the writers killed Laurel Lance and then bring back an evil version of her to save her? Would they really make her a permanent part of the story? I see no reason for that. If they wanted her to stay a part of the story why kill her off. There has been too much killing off a character only to resurrect them in some sort of fashion. Did the writers choose this path or did the studio bosses? I think it only serves to confuse fans both Laurel Lance and Black Canary.
Would a back story on Laurel Lance help? Perhaps we might understand her better, but it would serve a purpose if they would spin off a Black Siren show, and nobody sees that in the future.
Black Siren is one character that I can't understand why the authors wrote her. What purpose does she serve to Oliver or to the story. It blurs the reality of Quentin Lance, it confuses her fan base, and it doesn't seem to move the story forward. Star City thinks Laurel Lance was Black Canary and she died a hero's death, how do they explain her return from the dead? Does Star City even know that there are other earths? My guess is they might since they know about meta-humans.
The synopsis for 615, titled Doppelganger, will more than likely be about her, so maybe we will find out about her past on Earth 2. It also says she will make a shocking decision. I have no idea what that could be. Other blogs say that she may decide to suit up as Black Canary. Does that seem reasonable to you? Perhaps she does. I notice in the picture there is a bag on Laurel's bed, will she go with Lance to recoup the money? I had thought she might have worked for Diaz and given the money or part of it already to him. Maybe not? What do you think will happen and what direction would you like to see this go?
Coming up next will be Roy Harper
