Crossing Lines Arrow 703 Review
The writing for the first part of the season has kept us involved and for this reviewer a bit nervous, and this episode kept up that pace and that nervousness. In this episode, we have 3 different stories taking place at the same time, and I have a feeling that they are all interconnected. We had no flash-forward in this episode, but frankly, we didn't miss it, because the action and plot of all three stories kept the viewer involved. I'm going to break the review down into the three stories, which are the Oliver in Prison, Felicity in the Field, and Lyla,, John, and A.R.G.U.S.. All three of our main characters in each story Crossed the Line, but will the cost be? Let's dig in:
Oliver in Prison: Oliver did what he had to do for Brick to find the information on Diaz. However, Brick won't make it easy. Someone in prison called the Demon, works for Diaz, but getting to the Demon means sacrificing a part of Arrow's humanity, but as Oliver tells Stanley, "Everything I do is for my family." Notice how Oliver clings to that picture of his family. This motivates him. If they had died, he would have given up. He fights for them. You can see the rage building up in his face. Stephen Amell, as I know I've said before, can say more with his facial expressions than even with words. You can see it in his eyes that he has this rage building up in him. In one interview Stephen Amell said that the viewers might like Oliver or what he's becoming. Brick, Turner and Samson all are interesting people. Brick is pure evil. Does he have some control over the guards? In what prison do the guards allow prisoners out and watch them fight?
Oliver goes to level 3 and Stanley follows him, and they walk into a room, then Turner walks in. He and Oliver have one huge fight. Whoever was with Turner, gets flipped over the railing and falls to a certain death. Tuner has a knife, and Oliver's first instinct is to protect Stanley, and puts his hand over him. Oliver get the knife, and he ties Tuner up and inquires about the Demon. Tuner does not know who he is, and Oliver demands Turner take him to Brick. On this walk we learn a little more about Turner. He questions Oliver as a hero by comparing himself to Oliver. Oliver tells him that he was going to take the earthquake machine that killed so many people in the Glades. Turner comes back with the fact that he helped Diggle with Qudar. Oliver reminds him that he had implant that could have killed him, but then Turner tells him that he saved Lyla when he really didn't have to. I think that surprised Oliver. It gave Turner a humanity that I don't think Oliver realized, because John never told him. Oliver makes quick work of Samson, and then after Brick makes teasing remarks Oliver goes for him. I was amazed at how quickly Oliver reached him. Brick then tells him, he's on the wrong level, there's no way Oliver can get to the Demon, because the Demon is on Level 2 where the worst of the worst are. So Oliver takes the bloodied knife and goes after the guards. He doesn't kill them, but he does wound them, and he's certain to go to Level 2 to meet the Demon. Stanley expresses what we are all thinking, "You're never going to be able to stay a hero, not in this place." Oliver Crossed the Lines to reach the Demon to help his family.
Felicity in the Field: Felicity goes to see agent Watson, and tell her like it is. "Your deal with Oliver ruined my life." She then says, "My son had to be sent away." Felicity is mom, and I think this is the first time I heard her refer to him as "my son." She tells Watson that everything Oliver ever did was to help the city, " but this Monster walks free, this isn't justice." Watson tells her to "Go home and enjoy her freedom." Watson has no idea of the fury that lies underneath Felicity.
Felicity stays with Rene. Were you surprised that she didn't stay with John and Lyla? I'm not. I think her relationship is fractured with John right now. She chose to say with the one who is as willing to help get Diaz as she is. I know some of you don't like Rene, but I do. He's the one most willing to want to carry out what Oliver asked of them. Felicity knows this. Is Rene a little surprised that she hacked Watson's office? Yes, but he doesn't put her down for it. Together with Dinah and Watson they go after a plan to get Diaz locked into a room at the CDC. Watson agrees to work with her. They do get Diaz and two of the Longbow hunters into the room, but the Red Dart manages to override things, and Felicity can't lock Diaz in. He escapes. Why can't anyone shoot this man? But with his mirakru like drug, would anything stop him? The Silencer, Honor, traps Dinah, but Dinah tells Rene to go get her. We think Rene couldn't get her, and she escapes.
Agent Watson loses her job, over this, and she asks to see Felicity. Felicity tells her she's sorry that Watson has lost her job. Then she tells Felicity, "You are a good person. You deserve to have your family back." Felicity, if you notice seems to wince a bit. We find that Felicity has Crossed the Line by having Rene chain up the Silencer. If she had been turned over to Watson, Watson's job would have been saved, but Felicity wasn't willing to trust the courts with her. She's doing what she has seen Oliver do.
Lyla, John, and A.R.G.U.S. Their story began on a lighter moment with John and Lyla playing good cop/bad cop with J.J. John wanted him to confess that he had eaten the whole box of cookies. Lyla extracts the information in 15 seconds. Arrow knows the right time to insert a little comic relief. Plus, we see more of J.J. and John's interaction with him. Lyla, John, Diggle, and Curtis go undercover to Switzerland on a mission to get information, but Curtis discovered that Lyla made a copy herself of the data they acquired for A.R.G.U.S. Then John follows Lyla. He finds she has given the data she copied to someone outside of A.R.G.U.S. John's clearly upset with her, but Lyla sets him straight. John's afraid to put on the Arrow suit, because he does't want to have happen to his family what happened to Felicity and Oliver. He's afraid. Lyla understands this and accepts it, but for the very same reasons she's willing to Cross the Lines. She's doing this for J.J, so his world will be safe. She says, "I'm stymied by brass. This is bigger than anything we've been up against. There is far more evil than people wanting to stop it. We cross the lines for the greater good." Will this help John to eventually join back with the team.
Olicity: These two people that we care so much about are being changed. They are losing a little bit of who they are. A year ago, would Felicity have betrayed Watson that way? Perhaps. She went against Oliver's way of doing things in season 5. Remember how worried Oliver was about her doing this. It didn't help in the end either. Watson says at one point, "Why don't you get a Cyber security job, legally?" Felicity answers, "I haven't done anything legally for six years." When Oliver gets out of prison, they will both be different people. I remember Diggle telling Oliver after Felicity had been shot, "Don't lose the man that Felicity fell in love with." Will Felicity be the same woman Oliver fell in love with? I believe that both will find their way back to each other, but I don't think it will be easy. Do you like the way things are going for them?
Both Oliver and Felicity fight for each other. Both will do anything to save their family. Both head to darker paths to find Diaz. They are following the same goal. Even though we don't see them together, they are together. Whatever does't kill you makes you stronger, right? Will they be stronger together in the end? If I were the writer, that's certainly how I would write it. They will be different, but they can make it.
The Demon: Whom do you think the Demon is? At first I suspected it might be Stanley. But after watching the preview for the next episode, I wonder if the Demon is the one who will give some drug to Oliver? Isn't that what it looked like? Perhaps he some doctor. Someone had to give Diaz the drug that he went to the CDC for. What do you think?
Diaz: Here's my frustration with Diaz. Why can't they catch him? Okay he has in him the mirakru-like drug which makes him strong, but they brought Slade Wilson down. Adrian Chase was more psychotic than Diaz, in my opinion, but they finally brought him down. Damion Darhk was maniacal but they brought him down, yet they can't get Diaz? I'm wondering if there are those within ARGUS and the FBI that don't him brought down. Anyway, I will be glad when this character is finally done with.

Final Thoughts:
- Oliver's path scares me. He is mentally strong. He can make it through.
- Felicity's tenacity is amazing. She's glue, for sure.
- Oliver and Felicity's love can survive.
- Did you notice that when they took Oliver away, Turner looked sad? There's more story there I think, and I would like to see it.
- Diaz has got to go.
- Could Watson come back? I hope she does.
- I think all three of these stories are connected to each other.
- Why would the FBI move Diaz to 27 on the most wanted list? Makes no sense.
- What connection does the FBI have to A.R.G.U.S, if any?
- How will Rene and Felicity get information out of Silencer? It won't be easy
