Arrow Season 2 Episode 14 "Time of Death" Review
Since we have four more days to wait for Arrow's return, I thought I would watch one of my favorite episodes again. Thank you, Netflix! I chose this one for several reasons. Felicity is so darn cute in it, and Emily Bett Rickards has such good timing in delivering her lines. I liked it because of Diggle. He supports Olicity, and he cares about Felicity. I liked it because Oliver has some excellent moments as well. I also liked it because in this episode, Sara first realizes that Felicity loves Oliver.
So, let's begin! In the opening, The Clock King steals technology that can open any vault in Starling City. Meanwhile back at the lair Oliver, Sara, and Diggle spar in training, and Sara gets hurt. The three begin discussing their various wounds while Felicity watches, and then she says, "I have scar. It's in my mouth." Sara answers with "You're so cute". She was, but Felicity, takes it in a different way and seems hurt by it. Later, when blood needs to be analyzed. Felicity offers to take it to the lab, but Sara knows how to do it. I never noticed it before, but Diggle walks over to stand by Felicity. As if to lend her suppport, just by being near her. He knows what's going on with her.
In another scene, a telling one, in my opinion, Felicity is dressed in workout clothes, and Sara comes in and shows her a better way to practice. She asks, "Are you okay," but before Felicity can answer, Oliver comes in, looks at Felicity, and says, "What are you wearing?" Earlier in season one, Felicity is also in workout clothes, because Diggle thinks if she is going to work with them, then she should know how to defend herself. Oliver enters in much the same way and never says a word about how she is dressed, though clearly she has never worn workout clothes on the job. Oliver notices Felicity in a new way now. That's key information.
The Clock King infiltrates the lair's computers with a virus damaging them. Sara offers to stay, but Felicity encourages both Sara and Oliver to go to the Lance dinner at Laurel's. Diggle asks Felicity has she's coping with Sara being part of the team now. Felicity thinks that Sara can do so much and the only thing she thinks she's good she failed in. They don't need her with Sara there. Sweet John Diggle says, "Felicity, you're irreplaceable."
When Sara and Oliver get back to the lair, they find Felicity gone. She went to the bank to get the Clock King by herself. Of course Sara, Oliver, and Diggle go and find Felicity dressed in a black leather jacket, like Sara wears. Sara comments on it, and Felicity tells her, "I was cold." Sara knows. Felicity used her genius with computers to put a virus in the Clock King's watch. When the Clock King points his gun at Sara to shoot her, Felicity shoves Sara out of the way, but not before she herself gets shot. The virus in the watch explodes, and the Clock King is knocked unconscious. Felicity saved the day.
At the dinner everything blows up. Mrs. Lance confesses she isn't coming back to Starling City because she has someone in Central City waiting for her. Lance's hopes are dashed. It's clear that Sara and Oliver are with each other again, and Laurel comes unglued. She leaves and Oliver follows. The dialog that two share, made it clear to me, that whatever romance Oliver had with Laurel ended. It probably ended long ago. He was done running after her.
At the lair Sara sews the stitches in Felicity's wound. Oliver and Diggle have their backs turned. They don't look at her with her blouse off. That by itself is interesting, to me. They have a deep respect for her. (Okay, I am very old-fashioned!) Sara tells Felciity she's brave, and then Oliver goes up to talk to her. He tells her that Diggle mentioned that she might be feeling a little left out. Felicity sends a look Diggle's way as if to say, "How dare you". Then Felicity tells Oliver that she was used to being Oliver's girl., not his girl, girl, but his girl." If you watch that scene Oliver (and Stephen Amell is the best at expressing with his eyes without saying a word) gives a look between a little surprise and hope.
All in all there are so many sweet Olicity moments without ever having Oliver and Felicity together alone. It's clear that the writers were writing in the direction of Olicity. I think this episode also showed the end any love interest in Laurel. I did think that if they had hired Caity Lotz to play the Black Canary, there may not have been a Felicity. What do you all think? What was your favorite episode from season 2?
