The Mystery of Susan Williams
Susan Williams has been a mystery to me. The writers have not made me care for or about her. None of the reviews I have read had anything positive to say about her. So what's her purpose? Because, seriously, no one considers that Oliver could ever consider her the love of his life, the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. When Oliver rescued her, he got her lose, and told her to go, not hugs, no long looks. Yes, I know he had to get her out of there, but he needed to get Felicity out too, but he hung onto her, and Felicity even had to repeatedly tell Oliver that she was there.
She's not much of a reporter. Would an honest journalist use sex to get info on a person? I don't think so, not even in this age of "fake news". Most of what she got from her escapade, she already knew.
Perhaps the writers want use her to make Felicity realize how important Oliver is to her. The writers did nothing to endear her to us, the audience. When Susan treated Thea with disdain, the audience immediately took Thea's side. When she looked down Felicity's nose at the party, the audience rooted for Felicity. These are good writers, and know their job, so Susan Williams serves another purpose.
When Oliver questioned Felicity about her role in hacking Susan's computer, the audience became angry at Oliver.
Could she be connected to Russia and Kovar in particular? Could she be involved in bringing Oliver down? Is she a piece of the puzzle to punish Oliver for hurting her father? The flashbacks always serve to connect the past with the present. We know Talia met Oliver in Russia, and left out the little tidbit about her last name, and why Oliver didn't ever ask her, I don't know. That has been a mystery to some, but not to me. I had four brothers and three sons, and they are often clueless and the last to know. :) I think Kovar is somehow connected, and I'm wondering if he is Susan's father. We don't think Susan is connected to Prometheus, but the writers have fooled us before.
We have to wait to find out, but this last episode did nothing in stopping the questions the audience has about her.
