Arrow 607 Thanksgiving
This Thanksgiving episode, stuffed with lots of surprises, brought Oliver back as the Green Arrow. Let's get started.
Family: For me this episode cemented Oliver, Felicity, and William as a family. The show begins with the three of them helping the SCPD raise food for over 1200 needy Star City families. William stands by his Dad while Felicity talks to a reporter. William tells his Dad that he should go rescue Felicity from the reporter, which Oliver does and each compliments the other. William has accepted Felicity into his life. I think Arrow will build on this in the episodes ahead. I also think that when Oliver lied to William about being the Green Arrow after Diggle is hurt, it could cause another rift between Oliver and William. My guess is that Felicity and Thea will help William to see the good that his father can do, and will help him to overcome his fears about Oliver being the Green Arrow.
Felicity and Curtis: We found out that Curtis wanted to have a say in naming their company. Felicity took total ownership of their joint company. This reminded me of how much like Oliver Felicity is. Oliver takes charge and made decisions for the team without consulting them. Felicity is upset that Curtis treated Diggle without her knowledge. So will the name change? I never liked the name Helix, because that's associated in my mind to Cayden James. I am glad they worked out their differences because they are a good team.
John and Oliver: Felicity tells Oliver about John and Oliver confronts John and tell him that he's disappointed with him, and John lashes back that he has always put Oliver's need and Oliver's son over his own needs and his own son. Later Oliver comes back to apologize and admits he should have thought about John's son, and he didn't. Then John admits to Oliver that last year when they went to the alternate earth and saw how their lives might have been, John realized he always wanted to be the Green Arrow. John jumped at the chance because he really wanted to be the Green Arrow. They are truly brothers.
Thea: Oliver needs his sister, and after Oliver gets out of jail, he goes to his sister, and wishes they could talk. When he tells her that people in coma's often hear and he begs her to hear him and wake up, it broke my heart. He loves her so much.
Cayden James: He is perhaps the most formidable foe Oliver has faced. Prometheus had a twisted mind filled with rage and hate. Cayden James is calculating. In some ways he parallels the Thinker on Flash this year. He arranges everything like puzzle pieces to fit into place. He knew Oliver would come. He had his goons as police so that when the Team struck them down, and of course James had it all on video, it would look like the team had killed the police. He released the video to media and the Vigilante bill was defeated, putting the Mayor at risk of being put in prison for a long time. All this James did as payback for whatever he thinks Oliver has done to his son. So who is Cayden James son?
Samanda Watson: This FBI agent is out to get Oliver Queen. She knows everything about him. Nothing is hidden from her. She has a point that vigilantes can destroy a city and are criminals themselves because they work outside law enforcement,. But Oliver has brought peace to the city so that it can finally be a place where people want to live. Will Oliver have to come out and admit he is the Green Arrow much like the Iron Man? I am thinking that Felicity will also be a target as well.
Oliver and William: Oliver is a great dad. He wants to protect William, and he tries to reassure William that all will be well. He tells him to go with with Felicity and Raisa. Later when Oliver, William, and Felicity go see John, William asks him how he is, and John tells William he can call him John, Oliver interrupts and says you can call him Mr. Diggle. A good parent would do that, because it shows so much respect for the older person. As a parent I thought that Oliver put on his Dad hat quite well.
Lance: Lance is back and Oliver mentions that BS is back and starting trouble. Lance has to deal with his doppelganger daughter. Again, they mention redeeming BS. I get why they want to do that. We want to see someone who looks like someone we love to be that person, but I certainly hope the writers do not go in that direction. Do we need to resurrect Laurel Lance? Lance and Dinah share a special moment when both confess that Lance let BS go free and Dinah confesses she let the Vigilante go free. They both have hope that the people they care for can come back. What do you think?
Perfect Ending: Arrow had a perfect ending for their Thanksgiving episode. Oliver and his family celebrating Thea's awakening from her coma. William made dinner for Aunt Thea with Raisa's help, and then Oliver tells Felicity and William, "Come here you two" and gives them a hug. He has so much to be thankful for.
